Coal companies are threatening to send millions of tons of coal from mines in Wyoming and Montana overseas, bringing 20 uncovered coal trains through Portland daily to transport coal to proposed export terminals on the coast. What are our risks if these plans are approved and coal trains come spewing toxic coal dust into the air and water, exposing our lungs to diesel exhaust, stoking climate change, clogging the railroads and sparking fires?
Join with fellow community members on November 14th and be informed about some of the long term negative and destructive impacts this industry could have for our entire region. You’ll learn about:
· The regional picture of coal use and the health impacts of coal trains and coal burning
· The specifics of the proposed coal ports and rail lines
· Potential impacts of coal exports on Oregon, including local economic, health and environmental consequences
· Explore better alternatives and what you can do about it
